Skeet Reese Hosts Berkley Big Bass Challenge “Day with Skeet Reese Winner”

Regional FLW Stren and National Guard Pro Jason Borofka
Joins Reese at Clear Lake

Clear Lake , Calif. -When the Berkley Big Bass Challenge was held on the California Delta October 18 & 19, 2008, one of the featured events of the final day weigh-in was a raffle that included electronics, Berkley and Abu Garcia products and more. One of the more sought after prizes was a “Day on the Lake with Skeet Reese,” a prize that is not only invaluable, but rare.

Competitors at the first Berkley Big Bass Challenge in California merely had to purchase a bag of Berkley Power Bait or Gulp products, trade them for raffle tickets for the drawing that was to be held on the final afternoon of the event. Jason Borofka, a regional FLW pro from Salinas , Calif. and his wife put 76 bags into the cylinder, and they struck pay dirt. More accurately, Borofka said that his wife was the fortunate one.

“I got my raffle tickets and tore them in half, giving my wife half,” Borofka said. “Her numbers got drawn several times, while my half didn't get much attention.” When his wife's ticket got called for the day on the lake with the 2007 Bassmaster Angler of the Year, she passed the trip to her husband. “I was really excited, she decided it was an early birthday present,” Borofka reported. “It was really cool, because Skeet was one of the three guys I had wanted to meet after years of watching Bassmasters on TV.”

So, on December 8, Borofka drove to Clear Lake Oaks at Clear Lake to meet and fish with Reese. When Reese arrived in his Lucky Craft wrapped Ford F650 Super truck with matching Skeet Reese Edition

Champion 210 Elite in tow, the meeting was about to commence. “I was really nervous about it,” Borofka reported. “I was standing there with a Bassmaster Angler of the Year, and it was kind of intimidating.”

That initial feeling would soon change as Reese and Borofka would spend the day casting Lucky Craft Pointer 100's, LV500's, Flat CB250's and even a few Berkley Hollow Belly swimbaits to disappointingly catch only a few of Clear Lake's feisty largemouth; but, that's not to say they didn't have a good time.

“I learned a lot about Skeet's way of doing things on the water, and I found out that he's a normal guy who has done a great job of building a tremendous career,” he said. “I also learned that he likes to have a good time and share a few laughs as well.”

He also said that he was impressed and learned a few things from the Bassmaster Millionaire. “Despite the fact that we didn't catch a lot of fish, I saw how he carries himself on the water, and how he organizes himself,” Borofka said. “I was also impressed with his collection of Lucky Craft lures, I'm not sure I've seen that many Lucky Craft in one place.”

Reese also said he enjoyed the day. “It was really nice to meet Jason,” said the Auburn , Calif. pro. “He's a regional pro with aspirations to become a national angler on either the FLW Tour or the Elite Series; I saw how he carried himself, and we had a good time, I wish him luck in reaching his goals.”

The day on the lake was presented by Reese's sponsor Berkley , for more about Berkley Trilene, Power Bait, Gulp and Abu Garcia Revo and Cardinal reels; visit www.purefishing.com .
